Coffee Mania: Happyland's Coffee Trio

 


Good morning! I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their day. There is nothing like a nice cup of hot coffee on a cold morning to start your day. Even though I am drinking a cinnamon tea right now. Sacrilegious, I know. I should be ashamed. That brings me to the purpose of this article, Happyland Studio has created a line of 3 potent coffee fragrances. I keep seeing people ask which one is best or what the differences are. That is what I seek to answer here. 

I am friends with E.J. Wells(The owner of Happyland Studio). I think he's a great human being and a good friend. I have been supporting him since before Happyland went public. He did send me all three of these for free, at various different times. I would love to say that I am unbiased, but given my opinion on E.J. and who he is, I cannot make such a claim. So, keep in mind that this could be a bit biased from my perspective. These are still solely my opinions and Happyland did not influence me to say anything.

Now that we have that taken care of, let's get into it!



Dawnbuster

Main Notes: Coffee, Vetiver, and Labdanum

Dawnbuster is the most basic coffee fragrance of the line. Coincidentally, it's also the latest release. I guess some folks were asking for a more barebones approach to the coffee DNA and that is what he did here.

What you get here is strong, dark, and black roasted coffee paired with some ambery labdanum and nutty vetiver. This entry is focused more on the coffee as the centrifugal part of the fragrance it says that without any shame

It's basic, like the guy who goes to the local coffee shop and orders a black coffee. He takes pleasure in a minimalist approach, while still enjoying the finer things. When I say basic, I mean it's the most basic of the coffee line. I am not saying that this one is generic by any means.

 
Cuir Cafe 

Main Notes: Coffee, Labdanum, Suede, Leather, and Apricot

Cuir Cafe was one of the original releases from Happyland Studio. It was also one of the fragrances that put Happyland on people's radars. So, you can say this is the original, even though it smells vastly different than the other two. Also, I know mine has a strange label. Yours will not come like this. This was label he used before he got the real ones in when he launched Happyland.

Cuir Cafe opens up with a fruity accord, which the website says is apricot, but I cannot identify it as such. It just smells like a fruity accord to me. It then shows the major players in this fragrance, which is the dark roasted coffee and sueded leather. The leather is similar to that which is used in Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather with what I perceive to be a soft saffron invoked suede note with a more potent leathery note behind it. It is slightly sweet with the ambery labdanum and the fruity accord that I mentioned earlier. 

This one is a bit more rugged than the other two. The sueded leather accord certainly takes this more into masculine territory over the other two.  If you think of Tuscan leather with black coffee spilled on it, then you will get an idea of what this smells like, even though that is only a slight comparison. 

Homme for the Holidays

Homme for the Holidays is my favorite name from Happyland. A play on words, that is quite catchy. Also with the Christmassy bottle design, this one is certainly charming outside of what is inside. 

Homme for the Holidays is a warmer, more inviting, and more complex fragrance than the other two in the trio. The nuttiness comes out much more vividly with the addition of nutmeg. A cozy and inviting amber touches with the maple sweetness to create something truly alluring. Of course, the coffee is front and center here, like the others. 

This one is much more complex, nuanced, and the most complete of the line to me. That's not to say that the others aren't. I just think this one has the most going for it. 


Overview

Happyland's coffee trio is really good, in my opinion. I would suggest sampling all three to see which you like the best. Here is a shorter breakdown of all three...

Dawnbuster- A barebones coffee and woody fragrance without the pizazz of the other two, but it still holds its own.

Cuir Cafe- Suede and leather with coffee and fruit. More rugged and masculine. 

Homme for the Holidays- Coffee with maple and pumpkin spice with a warm amber. 


My personal favorite is Homme for the Holidays, which you probably guessed by my description. I lauded this as one of the best coffee fragrances I have smelled and that still holds true.

My favorite might not be yours. I wear all three of these fragrances depending on my mood. All three deserve a place in my collection and they will remain there for as long as they are in production. 

You might have noticed that not too much of the liquid is missing. This is because all 3 of these are very potent fragrances. I only use two sprays when I wear them. They easily last over 9 hours and project for 3-4 hours. Cuir Cafe is the strongest of the three, if that is what you are after. All three of them are for fall and winter.

This a really solid line and I think that anyone who enjoys coffee should try them. They may not be for everyone though, so make sure to samples first. Happyland does sell 5ml samples on their website. 


Conclusion

Boozy Seduction: Happyland El Goodo Review

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! I hope everyone is doing well today. I am doing just fine.I am waiting for a few packages to come in and I am excited to get them. 

The weather has been a bit cooler at night, so I have finally been able to give Happyland's El Goodo a good test run for a few nights. I tried it in the heat and didn't like it at all, so instead of rushing to conclusions, I waited and tried it in the cooler weather. The result were...Well, read the article :)

I did get this for free from Happyland. I do know the owner and I am a fan of him. So, there might be a slight bias in this review. I am just letting you know. I will still be 100% honest with my thoughts on the fragrance though.

Now, with that out of the way, let's get into it! 

(I am not going over the presentation this time because you can see it in the picture. I do have a full bottle, but it's been rainy here and the pictures didn't come out well)


Notes

Brandy, Dark Fruits, Cedar, Labdanum, Oakmoss, Beeswax, and White Musk


The Story 

Romance can bloom in the strangest of places...Awestruck lovers sitting across from each other with stars in their eyes. A blush on their cheeks, forgetting about the world around them. It's in these moments that an emotion is captured. An essence woven into the fabric of time for two people forever. 

The sweet aroma of joy and ecstasy, met with a special drink. The woods of the chairs. The sweet serenade of the memory clings to our brain like the heat of a fire on a cold night. A warming embrace that is a welcoming respite from the chill of reality. It puts our minds in overdrive, like bees swarming to create their sweet nectar. Nothing is as pleasing...or maddening, as these little moments etched into our brains for life. 


The Scent 

Happyland El Goodo opens up with a very sweet dark berry mixture accented by the fruity booziness of brandy. I think I can detect a bit of plum in there as well. It's very strong and very sweet during this time. 

Around 15 minutes later, the sweetness calms itself and a honey-like accord comes out. It's sweet, rich, and dark. I assume that this is the beeswax. A slightly peppery cedar that is quite dry forms the base to lift the other notes on top of it and gives it a solid grounding. It also works to keep this fragrance leaning masculine. There is also a faint hint of what I perceive to be a woodier version of oakmoss. 

Overall, this fragrances starts off very dark and sweet with hefty amounts of booze. It then settles down into a sweet woody fragrance with honey, fruit, and brandy. 


My Opinion

I didn't like El Goodo at first. As I said previously, I tried it in the heat and the sweetness was overbearing and cloying to me. It was just too sticky and strong. However, I waited, as I do with many fragrances to try them in different seasons. When the cooler nights came around I wore this a few times and it became something much more beautiful. So, my advice is that this is a strictly cold weather fragrance. 

El Goodo has a beautiful medley of dark and sweet accords met with woody notes that make it smell very seductive and romantic to me. This would be something I would wear for a date on Valentine's Day. 

I don't even need to mention performance. If you know Happyland, then you know they are Mancera levels of strong. 1-2 sprays max on this one or you will run the risk of suffocating those around you. If you wear this on a date and spray over that, then you might scare him/her off. You have been warned.

I do think this is a solid scent. It's not my favorite from Happyland, but it deserves a place in my collection. It will get some more wearings when it gets colder. I am just glad that I gave it a fair chance. I seriously hated it at first. I normally don't do well with sweet stuff, but since this is a darker sort of sweet with booze, I think I handle it much better than I normally do. 

As I say with everything, don't blind buy this. It won't be for everyone. Happyland sells samples and discovery kits.


Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed my review of El Goodo.  I will be reviewing Cravat Noir and Dawnbuster sometime early next month, so be looking out for that if you are a fan of Happyland's stuff.

The Freshest Happyland: Happyland Studio Gerranabis Review

Good morning. ladies and gentlemen! I hope everyone has been well. I know it's been a while since I posted a review. I had some family issues that I had to take care of. I am hoping to still being able to get 1 or 2 reviews out per week though. 

Today, I have another Happyland fragrance for you. I have had this one for quite a while, but I didn't review it because the owner wasn't feeling well. After that, I ran into my family issue. So, here we are. A bit late, but here nonetheless. 

This is Happyland's take on a fresher fragrance. If any of you are familiar with their fragrances, they tend to favor dark, powerful, and intense fragrances, so this one is quite different than the rest of the line. I will be reviewing El Goodo when it gets colder as well. I don't think I can assess that one fairly in warm weather and I want to give it a fair shot. I will also be reviewing Dawnbuster and Cravat Noir soon as well.

Happyland did send this one to me for free, but as always, my opinion is my own. I am friends with the owner of Happyland, but I have said that some of his fragrances didn't impress me much, like Green Irish Tobacco. Other people love that one though. These are just my opinions after all :)

Without further ado, let's get into it!


Presentation

I do have a full bottle of this, but I opted to steal a picture from Happyland's website because I haven't had time to snap a picture yet.

Geranabis comes in the same bottles that all Happylands do. The standard resto man with the mustache adorns the bottle. The only change is that this one is green and features cannabis leaves on it. This is obviously an ode to the cannabis in this fragrance. I like seeing all of the different thing he pairs with the different scents on his bottles. He is quite creative in that regard.

The bottles also have the standard Happyland sprayer, which is akin to a snowblower that covers you in a mist of fragrance. You only need a spray or two. The atomizers are very potent.


Notes

Cannabis Flower, Geranium, Agarwood, Tomato Leaf, Clary Sage, Orris Root, Clove, and Cinnamon.


The Scent 

Upon spraying two sprays on my hand, I am greeted with a fresh herbal blast that is likened to a grassy texture. It feels a bit wet, similar to a dandelion stalk if you split it in half and smelled the aroma that exudes from that. This is not a skunky form of cannabis at all. It's quite fresh and clean.

The tomato leaf is also present, but not overbearing. It seems that most fragrances use tomato leaf as an herbal accent to accentuate other green notes. It's no different in this one. It is similar to the tomato leaf note in Perfumology's L'Ima, which is a wonderfully aromatic fragrance that smells like a Mediterranean garden

After that, you are met with the resinous nature of cannabis. It's not super potent and it's smoothed over by the floral geranium. The geranium isn't mentholated and minty like in Brut or Floris no 89. This version is more of a slightly sweet and fresh floral.

The clary sage is more fresh and wet, instead of dry. Maybe the other notes at play make it feel this way to me. The orris serves as an accent to make the geranium shine more to me. It adds a bit of sweet floralness to it, while keeping it clean with an even so slight powdery nuance. 

I do not pick up any cinnamon or clove. My guess would be they are hidden and meant to boost the contrast of the cannabis flower and its resinous nature. I also don't detect any agarwood in this. 


My Opinion

I am typically not a fan of cannabis fragrances. I always fear that I will smell like someone who smokes pot. I don't smoke pot and I don't want to smell like that. However, Gerranabis doesn't smell like that at all. It's a fresh and vibrant green fragrance with a cannabis twist. It's beautifully executed and smooth. This is probably the smoothest blend that Happyland has produced to date. It's probably the most wearable they have produced as well.

I can't say that Gerranabis is my favorite from Happyland. It will take something stellar to break into my top 3 from the house, but this is still a very nice fragrance that has earned its place in my collection. It's a very well thought out fragrance that executes what it is trying to do flawlessly. 

I normally don't mention performance much, but as with all Happyland fragrances, this one lasts around 9 hours and projects heavily. This is one that you could get away with spraying a bit more than normal with their fragrances, but I would still not suggest overspraying any fragrance. 

Overall, this is a beautiful fragrance for spring, but it can work for summer as well. It's casual, clean, and it is unique. As always, sample first. Happyland offers samples of their entire line. This might not be for everyone and don't let my opinion influence you to buy a fragrance that you might regret.
